Daily Duties at American Medical Writers Association:
As staff accountant and benefits administrator, I was hired to be a full charge accountant responsible for all day-today accounting operations and for the management of all employee benefits. I was responsible for daily cash reconciliation, accounts receivable and accounts payable, monthly reconciliations of all banking and investment accounts, monthly closings including all journal entries, producing monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reports. As the staff accountant, I was responsible for the periodic audits, and overseeing the annual federal government filings. I was responsible for the publishing of the annual budget and all budget tracking. Because there were few accounting procedures and large variances between computerized systems when I was hired, part of my initial tasking included developing accounting procedures that would be easy to follow, more time efficient, and lead to more accurate information. As benefits administrator, I was in charge of payroll, all benefits insurances, on-boarding of new hires and processing terminations. I was staff liasion to the Budget and Finance committee
What they like about American Medical Writers Association:
You give high priority to hiring firms with prestige. Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.
