Daily Duties at Gm Powertrain:
My 13 years of experience at GM included starting as a production supervisor in a new Lean Manufacturing plant that was used for display by Roger Smith, CEO at the time. It was a very high profile project in which we incorporated the ideas of Continuous Improvement, Kaizen, 5S and QS9000. We produced 1000 transmissions daily and incorporated all the lean manufacturing ideas form the Toyota production system. My next position at GM was a Maintenance Manager for a Foundry in Defiance, Ohio. During this time we moved from over 5000 employees down to 1500. We did this by installing robots and many other projects that essentially eliminated manpower. During this time my responsibility included many different areas including melting iron, cupola and other various lines. We effectively maintained OSHA recordable rate at less than 0.01 as we completed numerous projects on tight schedules. As a team we saved General Motors millions of dollars by conceptualizing and implementing new ideas via a key suggestion program. I wrapped up my career as a WWF facilities manager in which my team included concrete, roofing and waste water crews. During this time Asbestos removal was a large part of of our tear down and rebuild projects. In 2008 GM contracted out WWF and that is the only reason my term ended.
What they like about Gm Powertrain:
The social vibrance of a hiring firm is very important to you. Your ability to make and maintain friendships there is a critical part of your decision. You would likely be dissatisfied with a workplace that is quiet, cold, or otherwise not particularly social. When you investigate a new hiring company, ask recruiters, managers, and potential co-workers about the social life and opportunities there. This is especially important when you are relocating; moving dramatically alters your social sphere both inside and outside the workplace.
