Daily Duties at Tripler Army Medical Center:
Cared for post-op Phase II patients' needs and prepared them for discharge home. Coordinated transportation home. Followed ASPAN Protocol Standards. Cross-trained in performing nursing pre-op assessments also housed in the unit. Participated in charge nurse duties and daily functions of evening shift duties. Served as patient and family advocate maintaining safety. Maintained a team role though able to function independently. Acted as preceptor for new staff and a resource person for entire staff. Participated in inservice education. Paricipated in the patient caring touch system, which I was on one committee. This system focused on different hospital areas related to patient safety as a whole. In the Surgery Admission Center where I worked, we averaged 35-40 patients per day coming in for surgery. The work shifts were staggered. I was on the evening shift and worked 1130-8pm shift, and worked overtime if necessary to assist my colleagues if short staffed. I worked with eight other staff, which included RNs, LPNs, transporter and nurse's aide. Chart room staff was present til 4pm,preparing charts for the next day and assisting other staff as necessary relating to charts. The unit consisted of five rooms with ability to hold four patients in each room between chairs and beds. There were two additional rooms available for isolation patients. Responsibility also included maintaining the equipment in the rooms, the CPR cart and any other equipment in the unit.
What they like about Tripler Army Medical Center:
You highly value a work environment built on a formal structure, rules, and regulations. You do not enjoy the unpredictability of shifting priorities and deadlines that upset your routine. You require and enjoy direction, input and accountability as part of your work environment. You have a strong need to participate in making key decisions and feel left out if your superiors or co-workers do not seek your input when making decisions. You thrive on providing good customer service to both internal or external customers, and doing so makes you feel good.
