Daily Duties at Engineering Consulting, Oak Ridge, Tn:
Provided engineering consulting support for Bethlehem Advanced Materials (Knoxville, TN) on their vacuum furnace control systems; designed DCS, 600 kVA power and controls, Modicon and Omron PLC's, PID loops, Interact HMI controlled vacuum furnaces with temperatures to 3000° C. Oversaw field deployments and troubleshooting of system installations in Japan and Germany. Developed three carbon fiber transport systems for carbon fiber development work, two in Japan, and one for DuPont with on-the-fly tension control. Consulted with Lincoln Brass Works (Jacksboro, TN) on a 17-stage high-speed appliance part manufacturing system. Redesigned controls and mechanical assembly. Increased production from zero parts/day to over 6,000 parts/day in two months. Contracted to Modine, Inc. (Clinton, TN) to resolve control and mechanical problems with a 350 ft/min, $600,000 tube mill; corrected control system design and mechanical assembly. Met Six Sigma specifications in one month. Contracted to Pioneer Air Systems (Wartburg, TN) to program, test and commission a large air dryer at the Y-12 plant and implemented sequential function chart programming on an Allen-Bradley SCL 500. Also designed and fabricated 300 carbon monoxide alarm systems.
