Daily Duties at Austin Powder Company:
Designed shot at the job site by measuring from the top edge of the quarry wall back and placing markers equidistant left-to-right and front-to-back to give the client adequate production rock until the next blast. The markers are the the production drill will use to bore a hole to the predetermined depth. Once the holes are drilled I determined the amounts of various products needed to perform the blast. At the job site the cast boosters and nonelectric caps are distributed to each hole. The products are loaded in sequence at each hole, first to load through water that may be in the hole, then appropriate dry material to a height to pulverize the rock without throwing the rock unsafely in or out of the quarry. Once the holes are loaded and topped off with stone to confine the blast, the holes are connected with additional nonelectric caps, each with a different millisecond delay. At this point the blast area is cleared of personnel and equipment so the blast can take place. After the blast the site is inspected to ensure all the holes were detonated and the area is cleared to resume work. The next blast would be designed at this time or on a return trip a couple days later.
What they like about Austin Powder Company:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
