Daily Duties at Emi Services:

The on-site Government group which provides oversight of the quality function is called a Quality Assurance (QA) team. The QA team employs contracted quality specialists known as the Quality Control (QC) team. The contractor QC team is factored into the contract bid price. In order to complete its tasking, the QC team is expected to operate inside the guidelines as provided in the International Standards Organization (ISO) 9000:2005 Quality Management manual which is founded on a strict set of eight principles. These principles are used by the QA team as a framework to assess its contractor in its continuous quality improvement efforts. The first ISO principle relates to Customer Focus, the summary of which is that the contractor must meet or exceed contract requirements and therefore should strive to exceed the Governments expectations of it Almost immediately following contract award, the QA team manager recognized that the QC team of six, (one manager and five inspectors) did not understand this first principle and therefore were highly unlikely to understand the remaining seven. The main issue that was identified was that the contract did not specify the minimum qualifications for each QC team member. I was asked to assist by providing training in an attempt to raise the QC teams operations to a standard that was acceptable to the Government. To achieve the standard, I was given a three-month contract to provide intense training.
