Daily Duties at St Jude Medical:

As a consultant for St Jude, I have been asked to maintain my relationships and, to the extent possible, transition those relationships to my successors. This is accomplished by phone as well as personal visits to these customers from time to time, for lunches, dinners, discussions regarding assessment of the business and customer support. This is a challenge unlike what being a salesperson in front of the customer with high frequency. The relationship changes, in some ways matures. This was what I have sought to do for St Jude, my successors sales people, and for my customers. A peer relationship has been the result. This has allowed me to provide feedback to St Jude on market shifts, new ideas for product use and problem-solving, and ascertaining that all of the proper support is being provided to these physicians and administrators. Being somewhat reoved allows better visualization of the changes in conditions and markets. It also helps to assess the evolution of relationships between company and customer. These are what I have been doing to this point in the consultancy.

Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
