Daily Duties at Crain Communications, Inc.:

Generated a $190,000 expense budgets and audience development business plan for RCR Wireless publication and website to obtain an audience of 50,000 print subscribers for wireless industry vendors target markets and assist the sales team to obtain $3 million in advertising revenue. Developed, deployed, and prepared copy for email marketing, direct marketing, and telemarketing efforts to capture subscribers with the desired targeted demographics that advertisers’ sought. All email and direct marketing efforts had an A/B test where a variety of creative elements to help improve future response rates were tested. For all email and direct marketing efforts measurement and analytics tools were identified to seek marketing campaigns success and return on investment (ROI). For key advertisers, I delivered marketing materials to highlight the audience’s superiority over the competition. 6.8%, or $13,000, of this expense budget was used to generate $220,000 in subscription revenue on top of the sales department’s goals. I utilized modeling and forecast software to predict print subscription revenue accurately. To assist the customer service department I wrote and presented training materials to empower them to make decisions when attending to disgruntled subscribers to prohibit the need for my involvement. Other responsibilities included database maintenance of the print subscribers, website registration, and daily email newsletter lists, plus coordinate marketing strategies with the website manager to capture additional members to the databases web registration and daily email newsletter lists. I also created and deployed email and Internet marketing strategies to increase web registrants and daily email newsletter subscribers. I monitored the web analytics to reduce web form abandonment rates and monitor how the web traffic looked through the website. I also monitored the keywords that brought people from Google to the website. To complete my marketing efforts and strategize with the publisher, I had to have a true knowledge of the wireless industry, where it was, where it was going, plus the weaknesses and strengths of the competitors. While I interfaced with the publication staff on a daily basis, I reported to Crain’s operations division of the company based in Detroit, and I effectively communicated progress toward goals with supervisor and upper management through monthly reports and email when necessary. I supervised one person to help complete my responsibilities, and I managed 20 different vendors to assist in the completion of my goals. By providing many different roles for the print and online side of RCR Wireless News, I was detail oriented and met all deadlines in this intense atmosphere always with a smile on my face.

What they like about Crain Communications, Inc.:

The social vibrance of a hiring firm is very important to you. Your ability to make and maintain friendships there is a critical part of your decision. You would likely be dissatisfied with a workplace that is quiet, cold, or otherwise not particularly social. When you investigate a new hiring company, ask recruiters, managers, and potential co-workers about the social life and opportunities there. This is especially important when you are relocating; moving dramatically alters your social sphere both inside and outside the workplace.
