Daily Duties at Us Air Force: Creech Air Force Base 18th Reconnaissance Squadron:

I was the senior enlisted manager of the Flight Management work-center. This office would manage all aspects of aircrew training program for over 100 assigned flyers. I would arrive 1.5 hours before the morning brief to interfaced Oracle, an object-relational database management system, with Flight Management System database to produce six custom reports that identified a flyer’s shortfall prior to takeoff. These reports were available to Executive Management, Duty Officer, and flyers in paper copies and web-based format. Prior to the morning brief, if the flyer identified a shortfall, it was corrected on the spot or elevated to the Duty Officer for a final decision based on my recommendations. Work-center employees assigned to the morning shift; the junior enlisted, two apprentices, would arrive to process and audit flight information from the previous day. When there is a little down time, I would conduct upgrade training session to test the knowledge of the two apprentices and train them on the many facets of flight management. As the day progresses, normally after lunch, we compile tomorrow's schedule for approval, extract flight information from an external database and do a changeover brief with the evening or 2nd shift. Sometimes during a typical day, there are crisis in which I have to step in and tactfully diffuse; such as a last minute request, an employee from another work-center making demands to my apprentices, while I am in the work-center, and others crisis management. Since I am ultimately responsible for the work-center, I complete a self-inspection checklist to ensure the work-center is in compliance and identify areas that require a second look. I observe the work-center overall and provide feedback to all assigned work-center personnel. As a senior enlisted manager, there are times when I may have to perform other duties away from the work center (focal point for all enlisted personnel issues, aviation flight records manager at the base level).
