Daily Duties at Mendes & Mount Llp:

Provided legal and strategic advice regarding all asbestos, health hazard and toxic exposure losses. Liaison counsel between Lloyd’s syndicates and USA law firms, coordinating litigation and reserving efforts for all long-term exposure claims. As counsel to LLoyds, work effectively with government agencies, outside law firms, trade organizations and other external agencies. Report to Corporate Counsel, and ensure coordination of litigation effort consistent with corporate objectives. Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts, cost sharing agreements, service agreements, consulting agreements and other corporate agreements with vendors, experts and consultants. apply legal knowledge and litigation strategies to prevent or minimize legal risk to the company, devise and implement legal strategy to align and achieve business strategic goals Worked with client as a business partner, not simply an hourly litigator, but as a managing attorney, to achieve strategic partneships and optimize results. The breadth and scope of the long tail claims problem for LLoyds required problem-solving skills, decision making ability and creative thinking. Ultimately, we devised litigation and reinsurance solutions to these challenging problems. Communicating with hundreds of lawyers, judges, adversaries and clients required excellent written and verbal communications skills. With over 5 Billion pounds of potential liability, and thousands of claims, it was essential to manage workload, set priorities and deliver measurable results . Ultimately, LLoyds goals would not have been reached without aggressive and effective legal expertise, trial victories and appellate victories. We defended LLoyds in all 50 states, and federal courts. Settlements with well-represented Fortune 500 companies, and their teams of lawyers, required effective negotiating skills, understanding of complex legal issues and a proven ability to win at trial.
