Daily Duties at Dell Inc:
Defined and executed a transition plan to move all Dell products (Servers, storage, workstations) from parallel SCSI to SAS/SATA. This transition was across the board from development through factory, sales, tool/equipment, diagnostics, and all other product relevant organizations. • Created and led core team of 9 sr engineers from storage and server advanced development teams. Led the team in defining the solution stack that needs to be transitioned across the Dell portfolio. • Helped drive and define architectural decisions across storage teams such as clustering topologies, interconnectivity, and GUI requirements. Led Dell storage products planning to align with platforms in persistent address mapping to external RAID, multi-path RAID controllers and enclosures, and N-way clustering. Helped with budget and resource planning for enclosures and SAS Solutions components and products. Successfully led a multi discipline SAS Solution team and coordinated activities across multiple organizations, including nearly 30 engineers in storage, servers, and workstations. Helped develop and transition SAS Solution teams in concept, profile, planning, and implementation phases. Helped defining the roles and responsibilities of the team members in the SAS Solution team as well as the RAID solutions teams. Completed 20 performance evaluation assessments of team members. • Developed patents and led brainstorming sessions with various technical teams. Setup brainstorming sessions for long term planning (4+ yrs) to assure moving in the right direction. Provided feedback to management and provided input to advanced planning teams at Dell. Personally, submitted 6 patent: 3 authorized, 3 recognized. Drove nearly 100 engineering interlocks and discussions for closure of over 3000 requirements. Worked with the Product Test team in defining and developing mechanism for capturing the behavioral requirements in test processes, reducing opportunities for test escape. Initiated and made significant contributions to driving the most comprehensive functional and behavioral requirements document at Dell. Completed training for 4 technical classes: PCI Express, SAS, Hands on System analysis, and requirements development. • Major contributor in defining the end-2-end solution requirements for signal integrity measurements and establishing pass/fail criteria. Driving consensus across platform and storage organizations. Provided input to the PHY Request For Information (RFI) sent out to silicon vendors. • Defined a method for firmware upgrade. Detailed out the requirements for custom BIOS configuration, boot partitions, graphics configurations, and ACPI requirements. Identified the PXE boot configuration options for the Dell servers. Identified SNMP and CIM manageability options and consistent IPMI addressability options for LAN and local interfaces. Helped debug issues with the I2C multi-master environment for SAS enclosure management.
