Daily Duties at Science House Foundation:
Part 1: I was hired in 2011 to direct and expand a philanthropic international science education foundation. My tasks were to use my international network of education, non-profit, government and corporate contacts to expand our programs and digital network from four countries to the entire world and to build a global network of partnerships with foundations, NGOs, corporations, governments, teachers and scientists to transform the landscape of international, collaborative science education. I was tasked to attempt to transform the identity of science philanthropy by finding new ways to innovate in philanthropic and paradigms. I oversaw an international team of dozens of scientists, teachers and volunteers in 25 countries, and managed relationships with executives at foundations, corporations and governments. I managed and directed relationships with technical vendors, contractors and managed a budget in excess of $1,000,000. I wrote numerous policy briefs, journal articles, and give invited speeches at conferences and major events around the world. Part 2: Developed and executed online and offline programs, campaigns, communications, and events to improve the visibility and message of the organization. Developed Global strategy and implemented outreach plans in Brazil, identified and negotiated with local partners. Strengthened ties with our worldwide and domestic community. Managed, Wrote, Produced Edited and Deployed content and functionality to the Science House Foundation website to drive online engagement. Conducted global outreach with multinational corporations, foundation, schools, scientists, and governments to further relationships between Science House Foundation and our base of Developed messaging and marketing materials including policy briefs, newsletters, videos, images, blog posts, press releases, and collateral to explain the story of Science House Foundation Lead the successful process of converting Science House Foundation from a philanthropy to an international charity. Developed a global giving strategy that focused on transforming science philanthropy, science education, emphasized social entrepreneurship, informal science education and non-traditional problem solving as a way to address problems with creativity and innovation. Recommended grant recipients and rationale to the board of directors. Prepared written grant, program and other reports for the docket and/or Board as requested. Grantee relations: Identified new grantees worldwide and projects to further the objectives of the foundation and global giving programs. Reviewed proposals, and determined which ones were to be further developed and recommended for funding. Provided program support for the maintenance of active grants or contracts including regular communications and problem solving with grantees and consultants, report review, analysis and feedback. Maintained an open, ongoing relationship with grantees in 25 countries from China to Serbia to India. Managed periodic evaluations of progress toward program objectives and developed recommendations to the Board regarding any appropriate strategic changes. Directed organization operations, including fiscal, administrative and legal oversight. Prepared and managed the foundation’s budget. Implement foundation financial controls. Maintained official records and documents, and ensure the foundation is complying with local, state, and federal/country laws, including the filing of all tax and other forms necessary to qualify the foundation for exemptions and deductions and other privileges accorded to such an organization. Board Relations/Governance: Served as a nonvoting member of the Board of Directors. Developed and maintained strong, positive working relationships with the Board of Directors. Worked in collaboration with the Board on strategy, governance, growth and other issues. Provide information to the Board in a timely and effective manner. Help to sustain highest standards in governance and best practices. Oversee the development of communications strategies and execute for internal and external audiences. Represent the foundation to the community including, employees, nonprofits, and the general public. Work with the board to develop an annual operating budget. Financial Administration. Implement controls to track expenditures in accordance with the budget. Developed Global strategy and implemented outreach plans in Brazil, identified and negotiated with local partners.
