Daily Duties at Wuhan University:
Project: Soybean protein/cellulose composites and their potential application in the biomedical field • Synthesized soybean protein & cellulose hydrogels/membranes using glutaraldehydeas as crosslinker; did process development of synthesis reaction and found the best synthesis conditions • Studied formation of new chemical bonds in soybean protein & cellulose cross-linking process with Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) • Used scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to study the formation of pores in hydrogels and on the membranes • Cultivated fibroblast cells on the synthesized materials to study its biocompatibility • Explored the potential of synthesized hydrogels in controlled release of heparin by testing the release curve of the heparin/nerve growth factor • Hands on experiences with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), used sandwich ELISA to analyze the concentration of nerve growth factor released from a synthesized controlled drug delivery carrier • Explored the potential of the synthesized membrane as nerve scaffolds by implanting the material in the mouse to see how the scaffold guide the nerve regeneration • Experienced with mammalian cell culture: cultivated fibroblasts/PC12 cells
