Daily Duties at University Of Houston:
Research Assistant Professor, Department of Physics and Texas Center for Superconductivity: Manager of analytical TEM laboratory with x-ray energy dispersive spectrometer (XEDS) and electron-energy-loss spectrometer (EELS). Experience and accomplishments include: - Close collaboration with film growers employing molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), physical vapor deposition (PVD), and ion beam depostion. - Computer programming (FORTRAN) for instrumentation control and data analysis. - Electron scattering, TEM imaging, and EELS studies of noncrystalline carbon films including diamondlike carbon and highly textured fullerene-like carbon. Systematic studies of structure properties as a function of energy in ion-beam deposited carbon films. - Semiconductor thin-film alloys: TEM and x-ray studies of spontaneous surface-induced ordering with a view toward tailoring electronic properties. TEM and x-ray studies of spontaneous composition modulation in thin films as a possible method of fabricating self-organized nano-wires for nanotechnology and nanomaterials applications. - Probing electronic structure of decagonal quasicrystals by Compton x-ray scattering. - Growth and characterization of boron nitride and carbon nitride thin films — possible materials for super-hard coatings. - TEM studies of ion irradiation damage in high temperature superconductors. - Miscellaneous TEM studies of high temperature superconductors and various novel oxides, sulfides, nitrides, and silicides.
What they like about University Of Houston:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
