Daily Duties at J. R. Quality Metal Corp.:

Joined family-owned and operated manufacturing operation producing general market and personalized bronze, copper, stainless steel, oversize, hardwood, and youth caskets to supply 200+ funeral homes with the major challenge of restructuring administrative and manufacturing operations to create a more agile and lean operation for a slow growth market. Hold full accountability for material and production planning and work flow, assembly manufacturing, system reliability, safety, product quality and machining and maintenance activities. Direct projects; job costing and margin calculations; purchase/vendor qualification, and new equipment/material evaluations. Supervise a team of 10 multi-craft professionals focused on maintaining uptime and first-pass yield high and lost cycles and returns low. Establish business performance metrics (cycle time, WIP, productivity, on-time delivery) and contribute engineering and technology-oriented solutions to improve manufacturability, product, processes and quality. I am in charge of the production of the caskets. I have to make sure that all orders are met. This means that all orders have to be done, with excellent quality, and delivered in the allotted time that the funeral homes need their caskets. I am responsible for managing between 30-40 employees and putting them in different work areas, depending on the company's needs at the time. I am also in charge of logistics. I have to make sure that the caskets are delivered in a timely manner without affecting payroll (overtime for the truck drivers). I am also in charge of purchase. Every couple of weeks I have to do an inventory of all the materials that we have in stock. With these inventories I have to make purchases so that we never run out of raw materials. But I have to be careful not to buy too much so that we could run out of money and/or space to store those materials. But I also have to make sure not to buy to little as to run out of materials before my next purchase. Once the container arrives, I have to make sure that what I ordered was exactly what came in the container. I also have knowledge with payroll. If, for some reason, the accountant does not go to work on the day that we do payroll, then I have to do it so that the employees can still get payed like always. I also oversee that all vendors are paid accordingly. Mapped and standardized the steps and sequence of manufacturing processes from start to finish eliminating any guess work.
