Taught a preamp design class to the engineering staff at Bloomington, Longmont, and Irvine. Wrote the curriculum that presents preamp design methodology, critical performance limitations, and architectural surveys. Wrote position papers defining reader and writer design methods for high data rate applications. Invented voltage-mode and impedance-matched writer architectures for high data-rate disk-drives. This writer architecture was used in the first 1 Gbit/sec preamp. Invented waveform reconstruction method for low-noise non-impedance-matched readers for high data-rates. Designed VTC’s first successful five-volt only MR reader. Invented high-beta/early-voltage product stitched-contact PNP transistors. Developed statistically based method of developing processing corners of device models. Invented the low-noise segmented-emitter bipolar transistor. Developed statistical method of generating layout design rules for devices.
