Daily Duties at Sensus Technology:

Hired as Engineering Director to help take Sensus to next level of growth to eventual $1B corporation Accomplishes engineering human resource strategies by determining accountabilities; communicating and enforcing values, policies, and procedures; implementing recruitment, selection, orientation, training, coaching, counseling, disciplinary, and communication programs; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation strategies. * Develops engineering organizational strategies by contributing engineering information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction; establishing engineering objectives in line with organizational objectives. * Establishes engineering operational strategies by evaluating engineering trends; establishing critical measurements; determining production, productivity, quality, and customer-service strategies; designing engineering systems.After review of Sensus deficiencies to reach high volume product delivery with six sigma quality I was asked and performed the creation of four departments including: o Product System Test (end-to-end system testing) o Product Sustaining Engineering Group o Manufacturing Test Group o Quality Assurance and ISO o Reliability and FMEA • Hired and created from ground-up team of sixty (60) Sustaining Engineering, SW QA, HW Failure Analysis and product quality engineers and technicians which resulted in significant reduction in field failure rate and $12M annual savings in warranty return losses. • Managed outsourcing of tier 1-2 MFG with Jabil, Flextronics, Epic Technologies • Instituted StageGate process for Product Lifecycle Management that did not previously exist • Lead definition of lifecycle for Product Marketing, System Engineers, software, hardware and mechanical design architectures • Responsible for $5M+ P&L, business plans, resource management for entire QA group with locations in Raleigh (RTP), NC, Uniontown, PA, Goleta, CA. • Successful Cross-Functional application of Design for Six Sigma resulting in optimized product features, manufacturing costs, and time to market. • Transformation of New Product Development & embedded system design teams to integrate DFSS using Six Sigma DMAIC / DMADV process to eliminate waste and defects. • Organizational Change Management using a friendly & collaborative approach • Integrated Regulatory Compliance with Product Development & Manufacturing Processes • Led Sensus in obtaining first ever ISO 9001 certification for three Sensus North American facilities • Led creation of customized framework for Design for Lean Sigma (DFLS) deployment including Needs Analysis, Curriculum Design, Course Development, Certification Plan and Governance Processes. • Led development of Test Plans, Test Cases and Test Results. • Drove development of project schedules, monitoring team progress, and meeting delivery schedules. • Led writing and reviewing of Market Requirements Documents (MRD), Product Requirements Documents (PRD) and operational specifications (OPSEC). • Led working with customers and marketing to clarify customer requirements for specific products. • Developed release readiness reviews of Hardware, Software, Firmware and System level products based on defect tracking techniques. • Developing relationships with outside test laboratories worldwide to handle product testing for ANSI, UL, FCC regulatory / compliance testing. • I developed the first battery qualification, audit and the sampling plans for ESS (environmental stress screening) of Lithium Ion batteries with HLC (Hybrid Layer Capacitor) technology for Sensus. The battery life is warranted for 20 years in water and gas meters so this was critical to quality and warranty costs • Drove Development of automated testing techniques to reduce test time throughout the process using .net framework, PERL and C# scripting languages. • Led Development of risk mitigation technique for field related issues reported through failure analysis (FA) and reliability testing. • Developing strategies for multi-site development and testing projects. • Contributed several white papers on subjects such as Harmonic Frequency Surge Issues on Utility Transmission Lines, IP address management, security and RF solutions for Home Area Networks
