Daily Duties at Ups:
Execute human resource strategies for the Warwick RI facility with over 1,000 employees. Identified staffing needs and managed all aspects of the hiring and recruitment process. Worked with every department within the building to meet hiring goals which included: inside operations, delivery/transportation, business development, and management. Coordinated benefits programs and management Earn and Learn Program. Worked with management on HR issues such as policies and procedures as well as State and Federal compliance standards. On a daily basis, I interviewed potential upsers, worked with my staff of HR Reps to ensure that each shift (3 shifts in all early AM, Day, and Night) was fully staffed and the existing new employees where being trained and mentored. I worked on Teamster issues and helped managers with their conflict resolution agreements. I attended daily operations meetings where we discussed safety, retention, conflict/resolutions, and recognition programs. I met with the building managers to work on succession planing and supervisor promotions. I kept rotating office hours in order to give employees the time they needed to come to HR and get help of any kind. This was one of the hardest parts because my team and I were very hands on and did not spend that much time in the office. We were out in the operations making sure employees were happy and productive. I also reported monthly to the district on our goals and plans for improvement.
What they like about Ups:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
