Daily Duties at Pleasant View Retirement Community:

I provided nursing oversight to over 150 staff members who provided nursing care to the facility’s residents. I ensured that there was a procedure to collect and review nursing staff’s licensure/certification and credentials. I was responsible for the organization, planning and direction of the entire nursing department. I directed and supervised the activities of all professional and nonprofessional personnel, recommending nursing care services. I established objectives for the department of nursing and the organizational structure for achieving these objectives. I interpreted and put into effect administrative policies. I assisted in preparing and administrating the budget for the department to include hours of care per resident; staffing mix to deliver hours of care and necessary supplies and technological resources to ensure the delivery of high quality care in a cost effective approach. I selected and recommend appointment of nursing staff through ensuring that their nursing practice complied with regulatory and legislative requirements. I accomplished this by participating in daily nursing rounds on all units. I planned and conducted conferences and discussions with administration and professional nursing staff to encourage participation in formulating departmental policies and procedures; I promoted initiative; the solving of problems and interpretation of new policies and procedures. I coordinated activities to promote, establish and maintain customer relationships with residents, families, staff, community and other professionals on the nursing units, promoting and maintaining harmonious relationships among nursing personnel and with the interdisciplinary team, residents and families. I advised personnel on specified care issues such as, basic nursing practice and principles; basic medical and geriatric principals and concepts; basic administrative principles and practices and regulatory, social, political and economic issues that relate to the provision of nursing services in the long-term care setting. I planned and outlined general nursing procedures to be observed by professional and nonprofessional nursing staff. I collaborated with the Staff Development Nurse to ensure adequate training and continuing education programs. I maintained records and prepared reports of nursing activities with a view toward resident centered care and employee development. I kept abreast of professional development in the field by outside reading, attending conferences and training sessions.

What they like about Pleasant View Retirement Community:

A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
