Daily Duties at Careside:
I was hired to head up and implement all phases of Business Development, Strategic Planning,Marketing and Sales In the advent of the product completion. As Vice President of Marketing and Sales my task was to transfer the company from a development company into a marketing company. The first thing I did was to make myself an expert on the technology and every phase of R&D. Working with the R&D staff I understood the technology, every phase of the product development, the 510(k) process, and all the timelines to get the product to market. Once completed, I took to the task of revamping the business plan, renaming the company, and coming up with a new logo. The company was Exigent when I joined, but I changed the name to a more intuitive company name – CareSide – more aligned to the place it would fill in the marketplace - Point of Care Testing at the patient bedside. When the business plan was near completion I started on the marketing plan and devised fully a road map of every task necessary to bring the product to a successful product launch. I began to assemble the necessary personnel – two product managers, a Marketing Manager and a marketing communications manager to prepare everything for launch. I tasked the marketing communications manager to: 1. Make all necessary changes to all existing print material related to the new name and logo 2. Incorporate the new name and logo and devise new collateral material for the product. 3. Explore web design companies to have a launched website prior to launch 4. Secure names to any and all URL’s with the wordmark CareSide. 5. Identify and prepare to attend all pertinent Trade Shows/Professional Meetings 6. Begin to identify advertising targets and I tasked the product managers to create a full marketing plan for hospitals, physicians offices and alternate sites that included: 1. SWOT Analysis for each segment of the market 2. Objectives, Strategies and Tactics 3. Developing a complete features and benefits list of the CareSide Product 4. Identifying and targeting prominent potential customers 5. Developing a five year Goals and Targets Plan for the Sales Force I created the five year Marketing and Sales budget that included sales estimates and projections, and projected P&L statements And then I started the Sales Plan 1. Advertising and interviewing for sales candidates 2. Developing a commission program for managers and sales reps 3. Hiring and deploying the sales organization 4. Tasking them to: a. Develop Sales Plans and Quotas b. Develop Objectives, Strategies and Tactics for achieving the first year plan, and thoughts on subsequent years 2-5 I initally presented the business, marketing and sales plans to the board an implemented all of the plans and I presented to the Board quarterly thereafter.
