Daily Duties at Ups:
In charge of fleet safety for the East New England District with 14 facilities, over 5,100 employees and 1,500+ vehicles. Responsibilities included training new UPS drivers Orientaion on how to be safe drivers when driving a package car, OSHA/KETER compliance, trainer education, trend analysis, accident/injury monitoring and follow up training. On a daily basis depending on if I had a training class or not I ran safety reports and analyzed the date in order to make my plan for working with at risk employees. Work withs included retraining of proper methods, on car demonstrations on how to drive safely, and testing the employee on safe driving guidelines. I visited the building throughout ENE on a rotating schedule or depending on safety numbers the ones that needed the most help. During these visits I would work with the safety teams on each shift in order to help them increase their safety numbers. I also worked with the teams to come up with and recognition programs that helped praise deserving employees. If I was in class training new drivers or training managers and supervisor on safe driving I would follow the corporate training program for the acquired amount of days but I also kept an eye on the reports and held conference calls with building managers to ensure we kept our staff safe.
What they like about Ups:
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
