Daily Duties at Us Navy:

Perform supervisory and hands-on tasks serving as Leading Petty Officer in the Internal Medicine Department. Train, supervise, plan and layout work, assign duties and oversee work of 21 Hospital Corpsman and a civilian medical staff of 85 medical personnel, and supervise six Supply personnel in management of a $6 million operating budget. Apply specialized principles and practices of health care management by managing our health care delivery system at my level, and effectively using all available resources in providing the best possible patient care to 20,000 beneficiaries including military personnel returning battle wounded, and dependents. Participate in the allocation of space for medical and laboratory services, priorities for the acquisition of equipment, material and supplies, personnel requirements, and ongoing housekeeping procedures in order to maintain aseptic conditions. Managed the timely acquisition of $1 million in upgraded equipment; manage and track the preventive maintenance of $245,000 of equipment. Devote time and attention to budget and fiscal management to provide best possible patient care without exceeding allocated funds, requiring an in-depth knowledge of government and Medical Center budget systems and an awareness of the cost of medical equipment and supplies. Actively promote cost consciousness and participate in establishing priorities for personnel, services, supplies and equipment, and for the proper allocation of funds. Provide ongoing attention to personnel management, including for military, general schedule and wage grade employees, and coordination within groups of physicians and nurses. Recommend actions including promotions, selections, awards, and disciplinary actions, grievances and complaints and career development training. Served for seven months as Leader of twelve Hemodialysis/Aphaeresis Technicians in the Nephrology Division in highly specialized medical care. Served in Iraq one year; provided medical, administrative and operational support to enemy Prisoners of War (POWs) and other detainees at Camp Bucca Theater Internment Facility, Iraq. Managed eleven medical service soldiers, a seven bed emergency room and seven ambulances in support of 22 detainee compounds. Managed care and custody of 250 of the Theater's most ideologically extreme and high risk detainees, including accountability, security, physical welfare and counter-insurgency efforts. Enforced strict compliance with standard operating procedures ensured all subordinates remained vigilant, disciplined and safe while personally interacting with detainees 12 hours daily during six days each week. Provided medical care for over 190 detainees; oversaw maintenance, dispatching and control of six front line ambulances covering 22 compounds. Participated in 318 treatments, 60 plasmapheresis treatments, 36 continuous venous haemodialysis treatments and 30 kidney biopsies in a one year period. Trained others in these procedures. Serve as Member, Certified Hemodialysis/Apheresis Technicians Board. Serve as primary credit card purchaser for the Directorate of Medical Services and manage an operating target of over $1,170,000 per fiscal year. Continuously perform a variety of duties which require demonstrating knowledge in administrative decisions requiring health care and medical needs and procedures to provide the best possible solution to specific issues. Recommend and participate in developing internal policies such as equal employment opportunity, merit promotion, labor management relations and position management, and in encouraging a commitment to these programs by subordinate supervisors and all employees. Maintain and establish good relations with various groups and organizations; other hospitals, navy hospital ship USNS MERCY, schools and colleges, community organizations and occasionally the news media. Managed personnel at both first and second level positions. Assigned and reviewed work; communicated effectively in working out solutions to problems or questions relative to the work. Dealt effectively with individuals representing wide and divergent backgrounds, interests and points of view. Maintained objectivity and fairness in judging people on their ability, and situations on the facts and circumstances. Demonstrated the capacity to adjust to change and work pressures without undue stress such as working with shortages in staff due to deployments of assigned military personnel. Work closely with others to resolve problems coordinate activities, and gain acceptance of procedures, and gained cooperation of employees in applying new methods and practices invoked by higher authority. Commended highly in official performance records including 5.0 on scale of 0.0 to 5.0 in professional knowledge, technical knowledge, and practical application. Recommended by Commanding Officer for "Early Promote"
