Daily Duties at Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (I.S.T.H.A):
Provide customer service to the motoring public. Process tolls quickly and accurately. Collects toll charged for use of highways by motor vehicles: Collects money and gives customer change, also collects for missed tolls. At end of shift deposits all funds collected during the shift, secures the funds in a plastic moneybag. Follows procedure to count, record on a balance sheet the denominations of money taken in, secure the funds in a money bag and then scans the bag into the computer and deposits it in a drop safe. Hands out toll information as requested by the authority, provides customer service, answers customer questions and gives them palm cards with information requested. Issue missed toll cards for motorists who lack the funds to pay the toll allowing them to pay within 7 days. Work closely with law enforcement officials in watching for vehicles suspected in Amber alerts. Ensures that the lane is clear of traffic when a squad car approaches with their lights on and records this transaction as an emergency on paperwork to account for all traffic allowed to go through the lanes free prior to the squad car entering the lane. Answer customers' questions, and provides information on procedures or policies. Assist customers by providing information and resolving their complaints. Greet customers entering establishments. Maintain clean and orderly customer areas and complete other general cleaning duties. Addressing safety issues; clearing the lanes of motoring debris, keeping the sidewalks around the building and the lanes free of snow, and salting the sidewalks. Stock the booth with all paperwork that will be used in the lanes. As needed requests information or assistance from the office by using the microwave (paging system). Participate in on-the-job training. Count money bank at the beginning of shift to ensure that amounts are correct and turn bank back into the office prior to the end of the shift. Request additional denominations of bills and coin as needed to make change. Count bill denominations and record totals of transactions for the shift.
