Daily Duties at County Of Merced Sheriff:

I conducted in-depth, follow-up investigations into Homicide, Robbery, Rape, Child Molestation, Suspicious Deaths, Personnel Issues, Missing Persons, and any other crime that was assigned to me. I reviewed and approved reports. I also reviewed and approved search warrants authored by our Deputies and Detectives. I worked with other agencies on cases. Some of these agencies include the California Department of Justice, FBI, Secret Service, Native American Reservation Law Enforcement, and numerous out of state agencies. I also teached a four hour sexual assault class for new victim advocates at A Woman’s Place Shelter. I have advanced training in major investigations, interviewing, and crime scene processing. While a Detective, I received above-average evaluations. I also conducted investigations into crime that impacts the economics of agriculture. I met with Merced county farmers and ranchers on current issues and crime prevention. I created and published a bi-weekly crime report and crime prevention section in the Merced County Farm Bureau newspaper which has over 3000 recipients. I also created and published a Be On Lookout (BOL) and training bulletin for law enforcement officers relating to agricultural crime issues. That bulletin was dispersed to all county law enforcement agencies. I secured over $100,000 in surveillance equipment for Merced County to use through a federally funded rural crime grant. I was active with the State Legislature regarding the refunding of the rural crime grants and provided testimony to Assembly-woman Sara Reyes (Fresno) regarding the importance of continued funding. The funding was restored. I received above-average evaluations. Part of my tenure of being a Detective was working property crimes. In the 20 months of being a Property Detective, I investigated over 1000 cases. Of those 1000 cases, over 80% were theft related. I was able to clear over 24% of all theft related cases I was assigned. A 24% clearance is over double the national average clearance rate of 11% for theft related cases. During this time I received above average evaluations I conducted investigations into drug trafficking, fugitive apprehension, surveillance, saturation patrol, gang suppression, undercover assignments, and special investigations including homicide, robbery, and missing persons. I organized and managed multi-agency sweeps to focus on particular areas and particular crimes. I also prepared a county-wide tobacco buy program with the Merced County Health Department utilizing Reserve Deputies and undercover Explorer Scouts. I assisted other agencies such as the Narcotics Task Force, Department of Justice, FBI, OES, and Secret Service. I utilized confidential informants to further investigations and I became very familiar with search and seizure law. I personally authored over 105 search warrants that yielded items ranging from narcotics to evidence in homicides. I authored the new computer search warrant format that was endorsed by the District Attorney and all Judges in Merced County. It is currently in use today. To date I am often called upon by supervisors to assist and review search warrants written by Deputies and Detectives prior to being presented to a Judge.

What they like about County Of Merced Sheriff:

Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
