Daily Duties at County Of Merced Sheriff:
As a Captain with the Merced Sheriff’s Office I supervised, managed and directed the activities and employees of a major law enforcement operational division of the Sheriff's Department. That division is made up of over 160 employees and 5 stations. I reviewed and implemented policy where applicable. I reviewed internal investigations and administered corrective action where necessary. I performed related administrative work as required. Under my command, I have overseen the operations in the Investigative Division, Patrol Division, Narcotics Division, Gang Task Force, Communications Division and Coroners Division. I also oversaw the Court Security Division, Narcotics/Surveillance Team, Field Training Program, Reserve Program, Water Rescue and Recovery, Search and Rescue, and the entire Correctional Division. I also coordinated with the Department of Homeland Security and California Emergency Management Administration for threat assessment surveys of protected critical infrastructure. Some of my daily duties include reviewing background investigations for potential employees and making recommendations to the Sheriff for hiring. I reviewed and consulted with our workmen’s comp adjuster on claims that were generated. I attended interactive meetings for workman’s comp claims and directed and reviewed investigations into workmen’s comp fraud. As part of my assigned duties, I routinely spoke to community groups, local city councils, the County Board of Supervisors, Judges, and other appointed and elected officials about issues facing the community. I managed stations throughout the County of Merced and during that time met with local Chiefs of Police. I evaluated multi-million dollar contracts for goods and services for the Sheriff’s Office. Some of those contracts were for a new Records Management System and CAD for the Sheriff’s Office.
