Daily Duties at Cardiovascular Disease Foundation (Cvdf):
My responsibilities mainly focused around the annual 5k Walk for Life event. I headed and managed the Walk for Life Meet Up group. Managing that program entailed using the social media site "Meet Up", providing members with education from the most recent research on cardiovascular disease, risk factors, exercise, and nutrition. Furthermore, I oversaw volunteers who wanted to be involved in the Walk for Life Meet Up program. In regards to the actual 5k event, I recruited and screened volunteers from local colleges, contacted local radio stations and newspapers to promote the event, approached local businesses for in kind donations, and served on the committee that planned the 2010 Walk for Life 5k. In addition to the duties listed above I also served as a liaison with Camp Pendleton to better extend our services to the community living on base. Lastly, due to my background in health and exercise I also participated in the Healthy Habits Healthy Kids seminars that brought educational and interactive modules to local schools for the purpose of talking to kids about proper nutrition and exercise.
