Daily Duties at Orcahrd Cove:

I was responsible for the day to day care of 14 patients. Took care of meds, treatments, meals, and careplans. Worked directly with MD, NP, and family members. Oversee the CNA's that work with me. In clinical settings when prescribed by a doctor, they administer drips and I.V’s.  In some cases they also may perform clerical duties. They prepare and give injections and enemas, dress wounds, monitor catheters and give alcohol rubs and massages. Licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses also feed patients who require help eating. Experienced nurses may supervise nursing assistants and aides. These nurses also collect samples for testing, keep records of food and fluid intake and output and help physicians and registered nurses perform tests and procedures. permitted to start intravenous fluids, administer prescribed medicines and provide care to patients on ventilators. An LPN collects information from the patients to be admitted; regarding medical records, medical insurance details, and helps in completing other pretreatment formalities. Treating bedsores is also an LPN's responsibility. Giving body rubs or massage also form a part of an LPN's job responsibilities. An LPN with a good amount of practical experience may be required to oversee the work done by Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). After recording the medical condition of the patient, she informs the respective doctor about the same.She takes care of the sanitary requirements of patients; which consist of bathing, dressing and similar other tasks related to personal hygiene. She feeds the patients and monitors their food and liquid intake and output. Monitoring catheters is also her responsibility. An LPN monitors the patients' health condition and reports changes in the same to concerned doctors. Once the patient is about to be discharged from the hospital, she informs family members of the patient about regular medications needed, the diet to be followed, and gives them the guidelines for patient care. These are the basic tasks in an LPN work day. In addition to providing routine bedside care, LPNs in nursing care facilities (nursing homes) help to evaluate residents’ needs, develop care plans, and supervise the care provided by nursing aides. In doctors’ offices and clinics, they also may make appointments, keep records, and perform other clerical duties. LPNs who work in private homes may prepare meals and teach family members simple nursing tasks.)
