Daily Duties at Cuyahoga Community College:
Providing advice and counsel to a broad base of clients including the College President, senior leadership team, administrators, faculty, and the broader College community. Negotiating, reviewing, and closing commercial transactions involving a vast array of business and legal issues. Advising clients on alternatives for achieving business objectives. Advising on policy and procedure development and compliance with federal and state laws, and College policies and procedures including competitive bidding, procurement, ethics laws, construction law and disputes, and labor and employment. Lead counsel for reviewing and responding to education record requests, public record requests, and subpoenas. Reviewing and revising student handbooks to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and College policies and procedures. Providing extensive training to faculty and staff on issues impacting their work, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, ethics laws, and academic freedom. Reporting to clients on legal developments that may have an impact on their work. Collaborating extensively with other in-house legal staff, clients, Office of the Ohio Attorney General and other outside legal counsel.
