Daily Duties at Military Sea Lift Command :
became subject matter expert in the following areas: woodworking cuts and joints, small boat repair deck coverings, tools and equipment, metallurgy, cutting and welding, oxyacetylene cutting and welding, braze welding, metal-arc welding and cutting, nondestructive tests and inspection of welds, and structural steel fabrication, shop mathematics, piping systems and repairs, and sewage systems. Essential in acting as a team leader by being persistent in sustaining all assigned deck equipment including but, not limited to: specialized gear; ship’s hull, decks, superstructure, cargo gear, smoke stacks, lifeboats, rescue boats and/or life rafts, emergency and damage control gear. Executes wide-range ship maintenance for the purpose of specific missions together with replenishment of stores, fuel, ammunition, vertical replenishment in associated flight deck operations. Imperative member of the cargo handling team that is accountable for: operating booms, cranes, elevators, materials handling equipment, and cargo securing systems. Responsible for securing of the ship for the sea observing the highest standards of good seamanship. Thoroughly acquainted with engineering, conveying and receiving various types of standard tension replenishment in conjunction with Underway Replenishment (STREAM) procedures. Authoritative figure for conforming to the shipboard’s Safety Management Systems (SMM) that compasses environmental protection and pollution regulations in concurrence with the vessels and duties; abroad. Appointed as Rig Captain (UNREP) which is in authority with spearheading innumerable training and well as ensures rig team is in uniform and outfitted with the proper safety equipment. Extensive training and implementation of cargo operations including such items as dry stores, weaponries, petroleum products, and helicopter operations (VERTREP). Efficaciously trained and directed numerous training sessions when docked and undocked. (ie: damage control operations, fire-fighting, anti-terrorism, Safety of Life at Sea(SOLAS), immersion(Gumby) suites, Emergency position to identify radio Beacon, Automated and to handle shipboard in main engineering space fires. Specially trained in Chemical Biological and Radiological Defense. Clear and concise understanding of the Coast Guard’s credentials and regulations relating to Rating Forming Parts of a Navigational Watch.•
