Daily Duties at Washington And Lee University:
Organize, administer, recruit for and conduct the University-Shenandoah Symphony Orchestra. Weekly rehearsals prepare students for 4 yearly performances as well as biannual international tour. Musical Director of Annual Musical/Opera. I hold classes in Conducting, Fundamentals of Music Theory, Music Theory I and II, Chamber Music, Applied Clarinet, Chamber Music, and Introduction to Music. The University Orchestra Program is an important vehicle for instrumental music students as they learn through my teaching and experienced what it is like to be a Symphony Orchestra musician. The Orchestra program exposes students to repertoire from all eras and genres from accompanying a harpsichord concerto by Bach to performing music from South America. The USSO provides a chance for University and Community member to come together to hear outstanding performances from these talented young men and women. 1988-present. Other achievements: • Musical Director of Annual Musical/Opera • Developed and organize Overseas Biennial Tour for Instrumental Ensembles. • Awarded funding from Class of ‘65 Endowment for Excellence in Teaching for developing an Opera Workshop Program. • Awarded special funding for residencies of Greg Banaszak, Cleveland Symphony Orchestra alto saxophone soloist and Leon Bates, world renowned pianist, among other guests. • Active recruiter of student musicians on and off campus.
