Daily Duties at 7th Judicial District/Stearns County Courts:

I was the first non-attorney hired by Stearns County to act in this capacity. I was appointed by various judges on a case-by-case basis to advocate in the best interests of a child or children in both juvenile and family court proceedings. I was required to investigate situations and circumstances relevant to my assigned court cases that involved gathering information and conducting interviews of children, adolescents, family members, school personnel, counselors, various social service agencies, etc. I also conducted research on individual youth and their families in situations that included cultural background, stage development, etc. I took part in meetings with parents, attorneys, social workers and school personnel centered on the best interest of the child, the family and the community. I submitted timely, accurate and detailed reports on all assigned cases. I was required to appear and testify in court on a regular basis.

Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
