Job responsibilities for a purchasing director include identifying needs and potential suppliers, soliciting bids, reviewing bids and selecting suppliers, negotiating and awarding contracts, accepting delivery of products and inspecting the products, paying suppliers and maintaining vendor relationships. Other duties may include identifying potential cost savings, developing and overseeing budget, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations and overseeing purchasing staff.
