Daily Duties at Lockheed Martin Is&Gs:
- The RIG – Dr. Greenwood was recruited to create, define, and bootstrap a forward looking Radical Innovation R&D program. The goal is to develop R&D paths to generate innovative solutions, technologies, a delivered prototypes that solve unsolved problems, and deliver technology breakthroughs to LM’s clients, customers, and embedded in LM manufactured products (e.g., planes) The RIG is to not only solve hard problems, it transfers innovations, technology knowledge and tools to the LM program teams. The transfer is required to successfully control the deployment of the technology; We accomplished hands-on transfer of technologies from Research to production products and solutions. - - P&L Responsibility – Dr. Greenwood proposed managed, allocated and controlled the delegated Radical Innovation budget, expenditures, and technology transfer funding. The RIG Budget was $2M/year; for tools and R&D folk coverage. Typically each calendar year Dr. Greenwood distributed the funds for several new innovation thrust, targeting specific envisioned needs, as well exploration with heavier funding a couple primary deep technology paths each year. - Staffing – Dr. Greenwood recruited research talent from internal R&D, and through new hires into LM often from totally new technology domains. Dr. Greenwood Recruited, engaged, motivated, and choose the destination and path to manifesting the envisioned innovations. Over seven years there was a migrating of R&D and RIG talent to open new frontiers, and provide solid technology transfer into LM programs. - Primary Responsibility: Ongoing hands-on leadership, by Dr. Greenwood across the radical pathways, and motivation of the people / teams “To go where no one has gone before!”. That is where progress is created from nothing; and usually it is innovative. - The RIG Innovations are driven to prototype demonstrations, where the Radical Innovation is applied to customer’s real-world problems. The RIG provided continuous communication, presentations, and prototypes to/from ongoing Programs and Projects; such that the radical innovations provided technologies and innovations that can deliver the best products needed by the clients. - Technology and Innovation Transfer – Document, present, and manage the transfer of evolving technologies to the products, and customer solutions.
