Daily Duties at American Family Insurance:
Receive assigned claims, check for coverage, investigation - taking recorded statements, obtaining medical records/bills, doing on-scene investigations (scene photos, measurements, etc), personally meeting with individuals/attorneys, settling complex liability/personal injury claims, attending trials, meet with agency force, prepare complex injury files for management to review for authority, traveled to accident sites within territory. My territory extended to southeast Nebraska south of I-80 west to Kearney, NE. Contacted individuals to determine the course of action in regard to investigating/settling the claim. I also requested/reviewed estimates of damages to other types of property. I also handled homeowner hail losses during the summer. I handled commercial liability claims. My main goal was to provide exceptional claims service to our policyholders, claimants, and to body shops and medical providers. I began to handle more complex personal injury claims with individuals and attorneys - personally meet face-to-face to discuss. My authority to settle claims increased based upon my continued experience in handling complex/high dollar claims. Made reports to the file as necessary in regard to coverage questions, liability, or exposure as to claim settlement amounts over my authority. I averaged receiving 75 new claims/month. My average monthly inventory was 150 open files. Company used Colossus, which is an injury evalaution program that the company subscribed to - input information to obtain settlement values. I would assign, if questions arose, injury claims to our Medical Services unit for their input of the individuals injury(s) and if medical treatment was accident related and if the treatment was reasonable and necessary. I reviewed/maintained personal injury reserves. Referred risk reviews for underwriting purposes. I needed minimal supervision.
What they like about American Family Insurance:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
