Daily Duties at American Family Insurance:
Setting up new claims, checking for coverage, investigation - taking recorded statements, obtaining medical records/bills, handling personal injury claims with individuals and attorneys, reviewing estimates, performing tasks as assigned by manager. Contacted individuals to determine the course of action in regard to investigating/settling the claim. I requested/reviewed vehicle estimates to determine if we should pay the vehicle damages based upon the estimate or making assignments to damage appraisers to handle vehicle claims. I also requested/reviewed estimates of damages to other types of property. I began handling commercial liability claims and workers compensation claims. My main goal was to provide exceptional claims service to our policyholders, claimants, and to body shops and medical providers. I began to handle more complex personal injury claims with individuals and attorneys. My authority to settle claims increased based upon my continued experience in handling complex/high dollar claims. Dictated reports to the file as necessary in regard to coverage questions, liability, or exposure as to claim settlement amounts over my authority. The job involved handling claims by telephone. I averaged receiving 125 new claims/month. My average monthly inventory was 180 open files.
What they like about American Family Insurance:
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
