As a Paralegal Specialist for the National Criminal Enforcement Section (NCES) of the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, my primary responsibilities centered on the management of complex and, often, high-profile criminal antitrust cases and trials utilizing sophisticated data management systems, including Summation, eRoom and iManage. In my role, I developed efficient methodologies for organizing hundreds of thousands of documents relating to each matter, determining the relevance of those documents and any other evidence to the Department's cases, and preparing that material for presentation at grand juries and trials. For one of my cases, I managed two direct reports and also collaborated with FBI agents and agents from other federal agencies in plotting criminal investigations relating to antitrust crimes occurring in the war zones of Iraq and Afghanistan. For another of my cases, I teamed with a translator to uncover evidence in a highly complex document obstruction case involving a Hart-Scott-Rodino Act filing by a foreign company. For a third case, I testified before a grand jury to secure an indictment. For all of my matters, I performed extensive research on Westlaw and LexisNexis to determine their viability as they relate to established criminal antitrust law and current antitrust litigation and reported my assessments to lead attorneys. I also employed LexisNexis to gather useful information on the various targets - persons and companies - of my investigations. Some of my other routine assignments included aiding attorneys and federal agents in engineering and executing successful search and seizure warrants, reviewing thousands of emails and other subpoenaed and seized materials for evidence, drafting and producing a variety of court documents, including subpoenas and 6(e) notifications, and planning and conducting numerous interviews and meetings as well as producing official reports of those meetings.
