I directed & managed a group of 23 geographically dispersed systems engineers, technicians, instructors, technical writers, and facilities specialists in support of a central office grade, X.400 messaging system in use by 20 major telecommunications carriers worldwide. I developed a new approach to our service desk function, in consideration of our world-wide customer base, resulting in cost reduction and an associated reduction in response times to our clients. I directed a number of areas as part of the operations of the company including: customer and staff training, software release management in cooperation with development, client document production, and professional services. I worked with the Sales Department to get buy-in on the international sales targets and to ensure that that the Customer Quality and Services team would be able to respond to those new targets. With these targets in mind, I planned, developed, and managed the $1.8M annual budget to ensure that our responsibilities would be met. On a technical level, I served as the subject matter expert (SME) for the X.400 messaging system and resolved an emergency call from a Peruvian customer by personally programming a new billing system overnight so they could meet their deadlines. On the quality engineering aspect of this position I prepared the work instructions for my team in order for the company to meet the ISO9000 requirements.
