Daily Duties at Newberry County Memorial Hospital:
As Healthy Communities Coordinator, (A Duke Endowment grant funded position) served a challenged population through the school district offering programs on values and healthy habits through wellness offerings. (HONESTLY, THIS WAS ONE OF THE MOST FRUSTRATING POSITIONS THAT I HAVE HAD – HONESTLY!!.) I WORKED WITH THE NEWBERRY SCHOOL DISTRICT, CHURCHES, NEWBERRY COMMISSION ON AGING, NEWBERRY COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT TO ASSURE THAT THE HOSPITAL WAS REPRESENTED . ASSURING THAT SAFETY PROGRAMS WERE IN PLACE, SAFE KIDS, CAR SEAT CHECKS, SAFE HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL. WELLNESS FOR A COMMUNITY THAT, UNFORTUNATELY HAS A VERY HIGH OBESITY RATE – MY REAL FRUSTRATION!!! THE WELLNESS CENTER WAS NOT RECOGNIZED AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FROM THE HOSPITAL. WE DID A WEEKLY ARTICLE OUTLINING WHAT WAS BEING OFFERED BUT THE COMMUNITY REALLY DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT HAD!! HEALTH PROMOTION IS SO IMPORTANT BUT AGAIN, YOU HAVE TO HAVE COMMITMENT FROM THE ORGANIZATION.
