Daily Duties at Veterans Administration Medical Center:

Intern provided direct support (such as daily meetings, personnel interviews, shadowed her as she moved into her new position as director) to Mental Health Services director and Administrative Officer in restructure process of department. Completed projects for departmental organizational restructuring (Created exel program to track all employees: labor mapping, credentialing, holiday leave/ re-structured current programs, completed analysis of viability and morphed some programs with others or created new programs to address current needs ), re-organizational analysis (we looked at each existing program and measured its viability (asked: is it worth keeping or can services be given without this program - Gathered data from last 3 years and evaluated the current trends of patient needs against each program), program evaluation , analysis of statistical workforce trends and empirical data, prepared reports and documented labor mapping for all employees in Mental Health Services department. (Labor mapping is an evaluation of each position in a particular program or the entire department. I mapped every position in the department, looking for down time, holes in productivity, and evaluated each position. ) The director was new and needed to revamp the entire mental health department within 3 months. All programs and positions were evaluated to see if anything could be combined. With the trend of troops returning to civilian life, the VA is expanding all mental health centers nationwide. We looked at any program that was not necessary and combined it with others or changed it to be more effective for the returning vets. At the same time, construction was being completed on new quarters for the entire department, so we mapped what programs would move into what new accommodations. The move and the entire restructuring process was completed within 4 months.
