Daily Duties at Rjf International Corporation:

In April 2002 I was promoted from shift supervisor to Midnight Lead Supervisor due to all that I had accomplished as a shift supervisor,the need for more mentoring time to work with the shift supervisor on shift and to train and mentor two new supervisors, and the need for a leader that will step up and address the problems encountered from a back shift. The situation on this shift was that I, as just a shift supervisor, was addressing my crew and equipment problems but the other supervisor on shift was not. My role as lead supervisor was to mentor this supervisor, plus the supervisor in the other department, help them deal with the problems they faced, and create consistancy across the entire shift which would increase morale and improve effeciency. I still had direct responsibilty of four production machines with 15 hourly union workers,along with the mentoring and supervision of two supervisors, 4 maintenance personel, 4 quality control technicians, one powerhouse attendant, and two fork lift drivers. I had overall responsibilty for the entire midnight shift safety performance, crew assignments, incoming shipments, and maintenance issues. I was the emergency evacuation coordinator on midnight shift, and point of contact for any issues arising on the midnight shift. My daily routine was as follows: Arrive at work around 11:00 PM, walk the facility to evaluate the condition, address with the off going supervisor any issues found or that we would encounter (shift change meeting), check e-mails and log book for any special duties or instructions for the night, set up crew assignments in accordance to call-offs, vacations,or special assignments/tasks that would be needed for that night. Check production schedules for each machine, prioritize if needed, schedule nightly maintenance requirements, safety meetings when scheduled. Shift started at 11:50 PM. I would go to each of my direct machine responsibilities, communicate to the crew the production expectations according to the schedule for the night, make an every two hour check on my machine crews to ensure they were on track to meet goals, assist them with problems, ensure they have all tools and knowledge necessary to accomplish those goals, check on the quality control color matchers to ensure they are meeting expected time allowances for color matches, periodically check other equipment in both departments to ensure smooth operation, work with the other supervisors as time allowed to help them I also worked on process improvement projects during my spare time. I attended each morning a production staff meeting, informing all the results of the shift, and passing on any pertinent information.
