Daily Duties at Massey Mc Collum Oilfield Services Inc. :
One of my duties is to provide field supervision of Massey McCollums Roustabout crew. A Roustabout crew comes in after the oil well has been drilled but not producing,(flowing back) yet. The oil storage tanks called the "tank battery" have been set up on "location", but empty. These tanks have a capacity of 400 barrels, (42 gallons to a barrel). The tank battery (number of tanks) can vary, as can the number of oil wells on a pad or location. The roustabout crews tools include backhoe, truck and trailer to haul it and 20 foot sections of 4 inch diameter steel pipe, a second truck and tool trailer for cutting and threading tools, wrenches, shovels, etc. A pump(s) and motor(s) have been delivered to the location prior to our arrival. The pump and motor are for transporting the oil from the 400 barrel tanks into the existing pipeline. We move the pump and motor into place (with in 20 feet of upright tanks), align and level. We then fit the pipe system connecting the 400 barrel upright storage tanks to the pump on the infeed side and connect it. Then we fit and connect the outfeed side to the main trunk or exisiting pipeline. To power the motor we run a line from the treater house, which is a location that the natural gases from the oil drilling process are captured and burned off at. We run (plumb) a line over from the treater to the pump we just set so it can run off of the natural gas from the treater. Electricity and Solar panel is also supplied as options. When oil is traveling thru existing pipelines for a period of time the diameter of the pipe narrows from buildup of parafins. When this happens the lines need to be "pigged". This is another service we provide. The coordination for this is a process of its own. Depending on the length of the line being pigged and how many wells are hooked up to the main trunk are some of the conditions dealt with. These details are handled by the Oil & Pipeline owners. When all systems are shut down satisfactory we open the pipeline and put our "pig" in the line and blow it thru with compressed air. The remaining oil and parafins are pushed into holding tanks. We run a few pigs thru until all involved are satisfied then close up the pipeline and get it back in production. Another part of our Roustabout service has been painting "launchers". A launcher is a part of the pipeline that serves as a entry for a "pig". A launcher consist of steel pipes and valves. What we do is sandblast (polish) the rusted metal down and paint it to proper specs,(14 mil). Another entity of Massey McCollum is digging pipeline. Some of my duties here include monitoring the air conditions when work is being performed in a confined space, which is usually a "bell hole" dug out by an operator for a tie in of a pipeline. I conduct a Safety meeting, we do a Job Safety Analysis, (JSA), take air samplings for CO2,H2S,O2 & LEL and monitor the air continously.
What they like about Massey Mc Collum Oilfield Services Inc. :
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
