Daily Duties at Sigma Aldrich Corporation:

Make molecules that form the building blocks of scientificlly relevant biotech research. Working with the marketing department, estimate cost estimates for the synthesis of new compounds taking labor costs and material costs in consideration, and interpretation of product market analysis in the short term ( 2 year period). Design and synthesis of new compounds included in the catalog for biotech building blocks with a view towards current research trends in the biotech/pharmacutical industry. Doing large scale synthesis (10-25g) of custom synthesis for advanced stage intermediates for biotech/pharmaceutical companies, including keeping a detailed record in accordance with current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs). Write up SOPs using current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs). Following up with the Quality Control (QC) of the synthesized compounds with analytical methods including LCMS, NMR, optical rotations, elemental analysis. Produce detailed synthetic protocols for each compound and contribute towards presentations at national professional meetings such as the American Chemical Society.
