Daily Duties at Colonial Connection George Washington University Annual Fund:
- Every day we would call Alumni, Friends of the University, etc. and update their information (address, contact information, what school they are affiliated with within the University) as well as attempt to speak with them about their experience at the University. Ultimately the goal was to get them to give at a number of levels determined by management. For example, the first ask level was $100. If they said no to that, you would go back to rapport and try to continue having a conversation about their experience until the next ask level, which would be $50. Each time you made a new ask, you tried your best to relate it to some experience that seemed to really touch the prospective donor, whether that was their experience on the crew team (in which case you would ask for a gift to the crew team), or the countless nights they would spend in the library (in which case you would ask for them to give to Gelman Library). The trick was to be extremely personable and friendly and seemingly genuinely interested in their experience and what they had to say. In order to be successful, one had to be extremely persuasive and you had to have the communication skills that would convince the prospect that they not only liked you but wanted to give back to the university to provide an enriching and wonderful experience for current students. After each call, you would update their information and code the call using Campus Call – coded the call with labels like: “pledge”, “no pledge”, “call back,” “do not call”. In addition, for each pledge made, you would hand write a postcard thanking the donor for their gift. We would also occasionally stuff envlopes and prepare packages to be sent out to the more generous donors. . In addition, I worked at Alumni Weekends to assist the Alumni in their activities around campus.
What they like about Colonial Connection George Washington University Annual Fund:
You highly value a work environment built on a formal structure, rules, and regulations. You do not enjoy the unpredictability of shifting priorities and deadlines that upset your routine. You require and enjoy direction, input and accountability as part of your work environment. You have a strong need to participate in making key decisions and feel left out if your superiors or co-workers do not seek your input when making decisions. You thrive on providing good customer service to both internal or external customers, and doing so makes you feel good.
