Daily Duties at Shearson:

Build and manage money desk for Shearson NY and thoughout the country. Recruited by Shearson to develop, build and manage a short term institutional money desk. Hired sales people, implemented repo desk and integrated new products with the institutional sales force across the country. As a result, became a major player in the short term fixed income market. I traded off my desk in Philly with all the buyers and sellers that I brought with me. It was quite obvious to me that Shearson NY (soon to become Shearson/American Express) did not have an effective institutional money desk other that their own CP and direct issuers such as GE,GMAC,CIT etc. I then made an appointment with John McDougle, the head of the total fixed Income division. I told him of my idea of building a money desk that was larger, expand the scope of new products and make the dept. more efficient and profitable. Shortly after the meeting I was offered and excepted the challenge. All the issuers I had dealt with previously were prepared to come aboard. I then informed our sales force nationally and brought them up to speed on all the new products and the new and improved operations of our expanded money desk. As a result our trade volume doubled over the first year of my hire. Our income and profit also improved dramatic.
