Plans research methodology and formulates experimental designs for medium- to large-scale projects. Plan experiments, records data produced, and identifies issues and opportunities observed during research process. Possesses in-depth knowledge of scientific methods and establishes research procedures in a logical progression. Applies knowledge of statistical methods and Design of Experiments tools to develop project plans and mentors others to do the same. Highly skilled in product development processes and design for manufacturability concepts. • Oversees and validates recording of experimental results for medium- to large-scale projects in authorized laboratory notebooks owned by the company for all staff members involved in project. Initiates understanding of and demonstrates appreciation for intellectual property associated with project. Periodically reviews the contents of the laboratory notebooks of project staff members and cosigns notebook to verify understanding and accuracy of recorded results and intellectual property concepts. • Promotes innovation and original thinking in execution of research tasks for medium- to large-scale projects. Responsible for directing project staff toward new developments in area of expertise. Extends innovative thinking beyond previous experience within company to be equivalent to state of the art in the industry. • Specifies and uses operating software and/or equipment required to support research for medium- to large-scale projects. Establishes procedures for maintaining the software and equipment in proper working order and establishes calibration procedures. • Develops project plans and schedules for scientific activity for medium- to large-scale projects. Leads project staff to accomplish specific team objectives within overall schedule and cost targets. Accountable for team progress in meeting schedule milestones or for providing timely feedback when dates cannot be met. Understands and applies core processes. • Authors project reports for medium- to large-scale projects Leads projects presentations or demonstrations to customers or management. Exhibits excellent oral and written communication skills. Interacts with project team members and peers to anticipate and resolve day to day issues. Interacts with other functions, customers and suppliers on routine matters to achieve results. • Maintains a significant scientific network and is recognized in area of scientific competence.
