Daily Duties at Plan 21/United Health Group:

Originally hired as a temporary, part time contactor for 3 months.I was to fill in for staff member who was going out on pregnancy leave. She was one of their most valued workers and the company was in a panic that she was oning on leave.My job was to basically duplicate her efforts. After a week in the position it became obvious that the only way to get all tasks completed was to completely automate the tasks that she had been doing manually. I engaged the IT department to help me put all her work into Excel spreadsheets. After this, what had takken her a week to accomplish could now be done in a couple of hours.The reports were now being done so quickly and smoothly that the Account Manager invited me to begin attending client meetings to explain how the efficiencies were created. I now had time to improve other task that had beendone slowly under the permanent staff member. I ahd the job of entering payrole info for clinicians. Historically, they were never paid on time and it was something the company expected because the previous staff member was so over-worked. I was able to now get everyone paid on time because of the process that I had automated into Excel. The owner of the company took note of my improvements and promoted me to be the new HR Generalist. I was no longer a contractor, but full time employee. My job now was to collect all incoming resumes, distribute them to hiring managers and schedule interviews. Once the manager decided on a candidate my job was to discuss possible offers (in compliance with salary scales maintained by the corporate office) and call and make the offer to the candidate. Once an agreement was made I sent an offer letter inviting the candidate to join the company. On the new-hires first day of reporting to the company I would conduct new-hire orientation. This included a discussion of all company benefits, policies, procedures, and government forms.
