Daily Duties at United Health Group:

Managed staff of 6 to perform all aspects of the administrative services department (including:company switchboard, new-hire orientations, company procurement, mail services, shipping and receiving, real estate and facilities management.When I was promoted into this role I inherited the staff from the previous company.The staff had been in a department called "Support Services". Now that we had beenbought by UHG Support Services had a whole different meaning. I saw this as an opportunity to reorganize the department while reenergizing the staff. I changed the name of the department to "Administrative Services". Each morning one of my sstaff would open the writchboard at 8a.m.and close at 5p.m. They would rotate the schedule daily.One staffer had the job of collecting the mail twice a day from each department between our 2 floors and 200 staff which evolved to 6 floors and 550 employes in our one Houston office. A different staff would triage calls out to our call center of up to 550 members over time. A different staff member had the job of coordinating between department for special supply orders and keeping general office supplies well stocked. Still another staff member (in keeping with our "service" initiative collected and distributed faxes. We had to ensure we were always in compliance with HIPAA laws by keeping all Personal Health information protected. Another staff member researched best shipping companies and got us set up to process our shipping requirements online. We taught each department to take advantage of this online process. I hired a "hot shot" currier to pick up and deliver our mail to/from the post office daily. It was safer and more productive than having my staff on the road doing this task daily And still another staff member had the job of monitoring the facility for safe practices. My job was to oversee all these jobs, conduct performance evaluations and liase between the company and our building management team.
