Daily Duties at Merck & Co.:
Preparation, sterilization of different media formulations as designed by supervisor via Box-Behnken design. Inoculation of fungal culture into 500 ml flasks, measure growth during different time points. Measured secondary metabolite after 24 hours by HPLC. Inoculation of starter culture for 23L fermentation experiment. Overall goal of Optimization of media formulation for optimal yield of fungal secondary metabolite in batch fermentation production. Successfully measured metabolites from bioprocessing with Kodak BioAnalyzer. GRAPHS AND REPORTS ON EACH OF THE RESEARCH RESULTS IN ORDER TO SUMMARIZE THEM. KEEP A CHECK ON ALL THE MATERIALS NEEDED IN THE LABORATORY AND BUY THEM AS AND WHEN NEEDED. SETS-UP AND OPERATES SPECTROPHOTOMETER, FRACTION COLLECTORS, CHROMATOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT, CENTRIFUGES, INCUBATORS, HOMOGENIZERS (FRENCH PRESS) ASSISTS WITH RESEARCH PROJECTS; PERFORMS INDEPENDENT RESEARCH; PLANS, DESIGNS AND IMPLEMENTS RESEARCH PROJECTS; PREPARES AND MAINTAINS CULTURE MEDIA, REAGENTS, AND EXPERIMENTAL ANIMALS; GROWS CULTURES; ADMINISTERS INJECTIONS; PERFORMS VARIOUS ASSAYS; STERILIZES EQUIPMENT; ORDERS LABORATORY SUPPLIES; PERFORMS LIBRARY RESEARCH; PREPARES COMPOUNDS; INTERPRETS EXPERIMENTAL TEST DATA ATTENDS AND PARTICIPATES IN MEETINGS, CONFERENCES, AND TRAINING GROUPS. COMPILES PROCESSES AND ANALYZES DATA; RECORDS RESEARCH PROCEDURES AND RESULTS; FILES AND MAINTAINS RECORDS
