Daily Duties at Howard University :

Direct daily operations of Center to align with organizational objectives; supervise administrative staff, graduate and undergraduate students; provide general administrative support; prepare monthly operational reports and schedules. Interact with internal and external stakeholders via email, direct mail and telephone; reviews and approves documents requiring Director’s approval, specifically, stipend, leave authorization, request for purchase, and remission of tuition. Provide for the fiscal health of the organization by facilitating acquisition of grants, contracts, and other awards. Serve as budget development expert on grant application process and manage grants for Center’s director, principal investigators, consultants, and faculty. Administer multiple budgets, from $200K to $5M and develop and implement standard operating procedures for grants and contracts to ensure absolute compliance. Track planned awards, prepare status reports on fund availability within sub-budgets, and ensure correct use of all sources of collaborative funding. Advise director and senior management on EDGAR, and university policies and procedures and federal and state regulations regarding human resources as it relates to the center. Edit financial reports and summaries prior to submission to Department of Education, NSF, NIH and other government project officers, funding agencies, and advisory boards. Serves as the initial point of contact for the Director regarding Center related issues by collecting pertinent information, following-up on inquires or complaints and conducting appropriate research to bring issues to resolve. Oversee hiring and orientation of new employees and support human resources function to include conducting performance evaluations.
