Daily Duties at Computer Sciences Corporation, Civil Group:

Developed pointing algorithms, provided accurate real time and definitive attitude solutions for four highly successful NASA missions: the Earth Observing System for the Atmospheric Measurement, also known as TERRA, the Imager for Magnetopause-to-Aurora Global Exploration, FAST Auroral Snapshot Explorer and the X-ray Timing Explorer (XTE). Calibrated FAST and XTE Sun sensors. Integrated adaptive filter algorithms in attitude determination systems. Tested and assured the quality of the Attitude Determination and Error Analysis System and the Orbit Determination and Error Analysis System. Tested the ground support systems of FAST, XTE, and Solar and Heliospheric Observatory. Implemented configuration management procedures. Developed custom algorithms and computer programs to model Sun sensor errors caused by Earth albedo. Validated the programs using flight telemetry from the Tropical Rain Forest Measurement Mission. Studied methods for reducing Sun sensor errors. Analyzed the performance of Fixed Head and Charged Coupled Device Star Trackers. This work was highly appreciated by the customer and led to more research funding. Enhanced the SKYMAP stellar catalog with accurate algorithms for predicting instrumental magnitude. Designed Earth Observing System mission maneuvers to increase Sun sensor accuracy to 1 arc-minute. Tested and assured the quality of the Landsat - 7 spacecraft simulator. As task leader of advanced sensor studies group, pioneered the determination of satellite attitude using GPS signals and laser and acoustic gyros. Performed spectral analyses to determine sensor response. Analyzed the effect of attitude sensor systems on the accuracy of attitude solutions using custom algorithms, statistical analysis and satellite telemetry. This work evolved in a reference technical paper on Satellite Attitude Accuracy based on Mission Experience.

What they like about Computer Sciences Corporation, Civil Group:

Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
